Welcome to the Rotary Club of Flemington Kensington Inc.
Established in March 1987and sponsored by the Rotary Club of North Melbourne, we are the inner Melbourne club based just 5kms from the city and serving the communities of Flemington, Kensington, West Melbourne, Ascot Vale and Moonee Ponds.
When chartered, we were the first club in our district to meet for breakfast, meeting the needs of our members who were mostly local businessmen. Our 36 current members come from varied occupations and backgrounds.

Rotary Op Shop

Located at 444 Racecourse Road near the corner of Clarence Street, we have been serving the community since 2010.

Totally volunteer run, the shop provides the funds for our club to do our work in the community.

Open Wednesday to Saturday, we have a wide range of clothing, shoes, kitchen and household goods, manchester, books, toys and collectables.

Volunteers are welcome - WWCC required.

Flemington Multicultural Festival

Saturday 10 October was bright and sunny: a perfect day for a bbq as we celebrated the multicultural community which is our home.

Along with almost 80 other community groups, Rotary Flemington Kensington was prepared to celebrate and share, discuss, chat and enjoy the company.

Our bbq was a great hit as always - thanks to the team led by Anwar who was there from start to the end. John Sklenar, John Farmery, Chris R, Jo W, Nicole M, Danny P, Lachlan J, Abdi H, Peter C, Ilhan & Shirhan, Lesley.

Somali Independence Day Celebrations

We were deligh

ted to support our local Somali community with the BBQ at the festival at Debneys Park.

What a huge day we had - 60kgs sausages sold by 4:30pm.

Thanks as always to the wonderful Anwar who was there from 9am til 6pm!!

A great effort from John Sklenar, Jo, Nicole, Anthony McManus, John Farmery, Soraya Mohamud, Shirhan Abdulkadir, Abdi Hassan and Lesley.

Donations toward the Galkayo Hospital container of $1295 plus half the profits from the day.

Nature Strip Garden working bee

Our club partnered with Moonee valley sustainability to create a native nature strip garden in Aberfeldie.

Garden design and plant selections by Logan at MVS, plants from Newport Lakes Native nursery, funding from Rotary Flemington Kensington and a grant for the owner.

Labour from Logan, Teresa, Angela, Jane, Rowena, Clare, Tammy, Rita, Jo and Toby, Lesley.

A very successful and fun day in the sunshine as we created this native habitat for a local medical practitioner keen to promote environment and sustainability in her practice.

National Tree Day

What a beautiful day weather wise as we partnered with Moonee Valley Council for this year's National Tree Day.

Held for the first time at Boeing Reserve in Strathmore there were 10,000 seedlings to plant on the day.

There were 100's of volunteers from local community groups, mums, dads and kids, scouts and guides all joining together to green our environment. It was great to see Moonee Valley Sustainability and Moonee Valley Bee Keepers spreading the message and sharing ideas, strategies and knowledge.
Many thanks to the team from Rotary Keilor East for the BBQ which was much appreciated - as was the delicious coffee from the Coffee Cart.

Club Changeover

40 members and guests came together to celebrate a wonderful 2025-2026 year and to welcome our new Presidents Jeff Weitzel and Peter Cribb.

Thank you to PDG Julie Mason for attending as the district representative.

We also heard a presentation from Youth Exchange scholar Lenka Pocarovska on her year in Australia. Thank you to her host families: Carla & Scott Tatulaschwili, Chris Richardson, Alistair & Kate , Drew& Barbara Sheehan and Maria Silber.

A new member was welcomed on this special night - Lachlan Janetzki is a former RYLArian and a previous scholarship recipient of our clubs.
He has also assisted at Ryda as a supervisor with MAC.

John Farmery was acknowledged for his efforts with the Jim Hosie Award.

Shep's Shout Out

At this year's District Governor Changeover, outgoing DG Peter Shepherd acknowledged the work of all clubs in the district.

RYDA

Supported by a grant from Moonee Valley Council, we were able to support 4 schools with participation in

RYDA. Over the last 6 months, 263 students and 20 teachers from 3 schools attended the day long program run by Road Safety Education Australia and Anton Hockey.
Buckley Park College, Essendon Keilor College and Mount Alexander College year 10 & 11 students participated in the 5 hour program. Rosehill College will attend in October.

Moonee Valley Festival

It was a fantast

ic day at the Moonee Valley Festival in Queens Park.
With superb autumn weather, the crowds arrived early and, with a diverse range of activities, families and new citizens alike enjoyed the vibrant community atmosphere.
Our barbecue was a resounding success, commencing at 10am and offering a variety of vegetarian, gluten-free, and traditional options to cater to all tastes.
Sincere thanks to Anwar who is always prepared and to all who helped out.
